ADVISORY/ Fidelity's New IRA Accounts Up 38 Percent With Majority Opening Traditional IRAs.Business Editors ADVISORY... --(BUSINESS WIRE) Many investors eager to take advantage of potential market gains between now and April 17
What: According to Fidelity Investments(R), investors are rushing
to open Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) before the April
17 tax filing deadline. Fidelity's average daily number of
new IRA accounts opened from January 1, 2000, through January
21, 2000, is up 38 percent when compared to the same time
last year. The average daily number of Traditional IRA
accounts opened is up 72 percent, while the number of new
Roth IRAs opened is up 15 percent.
Fidelity branches are also reporting that investors seem to
be bucking the long-standing tradition of waiting until the
last minute to make their IRA contributions. A flurry of
investors depositing up to $2,000 into IRA accounts usually
takes place the week leading up to the April tax filing
deadline. This year, more investors appear to be making their
contributions earlier than usual in an effort to maximize the
tax-deferred growth of their investments.
To help investors with IRA investment decisions, retirement
planning and tax preparation, Fidelity recently introduced
two new online resources -- Fidelity NetIRA(SM) at
fidelity.com/ira and Fidelity Online Tax Center at
fidelity.com/tax.
Who: Fidelity has local and national spokespersons available to
speak on IRAs. To arrange an interview, contact Vicki
Anderson Granado at 972-584-4261.
