Entertainment Industry, Business and Community Leaders

Back to School as Principal for a Day

Three hundred entertainment industry, business and community leaders will serve as "Principal for a Day" in a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  public school on Thursday, March 30. Participants will get a hands-on lesson in the challenge of operating a public school in Los Angeles and the opportunity to meet with teachers, administrators, students and parents to talk with them about their school.

Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Participants in Principal for a Day include some of the entertainment industry's leading studio executives, producers, directors and agents as well as other Los Angeles business executives and community leaders. Participants will be assigned to schools in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.

Principal for a Day 2000 is a project of the Entertainment Industry Foundation in collaboration with the Los Angeles Educational Partnership and the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population. . The event aims to generate a new spirit of civic involvement in support of public schools and to engage the talent and resources of the Los Angeles community in support of quality public education.
