What: Drexel University Drexel University, at Philadelphia, Pa.; coeducational; founded 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, opened 1892, chartered 1894 as Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. It was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology in 1936 and gained university status in 1970.  President Constantine Papadakis will be

pulling double duty as host and grill master for upwards of 600

students, faculty and staff at an Independence Day celebration

continuation bash in celebration of the tremendous success of the

University's Office of Research and Graduate Studies.

Papadakis and co-host Vice President for Research and Graduate

Studies Harvill Eaton will be serving up hamburgers, hot dogs,

chicken and veggie burgers and, of course, there will be all the

Why: Through the efforts of the Office of Research and Graduate

Studies, Drexel has doubled its awarded research dollars since

1997, two years ahead of the five-year plan Five-Year Plan, Soviet economic practice of planning to augment agricultural and industrial output by designated quotas for a limited period of usually five years.  Papadakis laid out in

1997. This fiscal year, the total reached $30 million.

Visuals: Decked out in chefs' hats and aprons, a departure from their

usual formal wear, Papadakis and Eaton will be manning the grill.

A great party atmosphere is guaranteed, as the Philliville Steel

Band will be heating things up with their distinct sound. Students

will be taking a breather from their high-tech, brain-draining

classes to relax, catch some rays and down some good eats.

When: Wednesday, July 5, 2000, from 12-2:00 p.m.
