Used to Feed the Hungry in Eastern Massachusetts Massachusetts (măsəch`sĭts), most populous of the New England states of the NE United States.  
WHAT: Boston-area design and construction firms will participate in the 7th annual CANSTRUCTION(R) event, a national community service project that is trademarked and sponsored by the Society of Design Administration. Architects, engineers and students will compete to design and build gigantic 800 cubic foot structures made out of nonperishable food items. The two-week event will be held in conjunction with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino's Can Share food drive, with all food from both events to be donated to The Greater Boston Food Bank. It is expected that over 90,000 pounds of food will be donated to The Food Bank, which is the equivalent of nearly 70,000 meals. The wholesale value of this expected donation is $135,000. Beginning on Monday, October 28, 2002 the public will be able to view the canned-food sculptures at The Boston Design Center, South Station and the Museum of Science, Boston. Prince Pasta is the corporate sponsor for this year's event. WHEN: Monday, October 28 - Friday, November 8, 2002 WHERE: 17 sculptures on display at The Boston Design Center, One Design Center 1 sculpture on display at The Museum of Science, Science Park 3 sculptures on display at South Station, Atlantic Ave and Summer Street HIGHLIGHTS: Monday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. Opening event for CAN Share and CANSTRUCTION(R) at the Boston Design Center. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will be on-site to help kick-off the event. Thursday, November 7 at 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Gala Event and Award Ceremony.
