WHAT: Abilities Expo/Northern California, to be held at the San
Mateo County Expo Center, November 22-24, 2002 is the one show
dedicated to educating and improving the lives of people with
disabilities, senior citizens, their families & caregivers, as
well as healthcare and education professionals. The show floor
and educational program provides attendees with a chance to
discover and learn about new products and services - all
conveniently displayed to see, test and compare.
On-site, attendees will be able to enjoy first-hand:
-- The latest products introduced to this $1 billion market
including, lifts, wheelchairs, toys, vans, clothing,
support services, 3-wheel scooters, computers, sports and
exercise equipment, daily living aids, personal care
products and much more.
-- Sports Demonstrations by Accessibility Training will
include core training -- physioball; strength training --
resistant bands and dumbbells; and stretching.
Demonstrations will be held daily at 10am, 12pm and 3pm.
In addition, Far West Wheelchair Sports will be
demonstrating wheelchair basketball, soccer rugby and/or
tennis. Demonstrations will be held daily at 11am, 1pm and
2pm.
-- Several artists with disabilities will demonstrate their
talents including Scott Gann, a designer with an
organization called Upside Down from Corona, CA, Patricia
Wood who works with acrylic painting, ceramics and hand
painted wooden furniture from Sacramento, CA is with an
organization called Short Center South and Dana Wolf who
works with watercolors out of Gamaliel, AR is with an
organization called SuperQuads.com.
-- A conference program developed by Stanley D. Klein, PhD, a
licensed clinical psychologist and co-editor of You Will
Dream New Dreams. The educational curriculum is designed
to discuss and touch on issues and challenges and address
them in a healthy and productive way. Topics will include;
Stem cell research: Applications to diseases/disorders of
the central nervous system, I want to live where and how I
want to live! What Olmstead v. L.C. decision means for you
and I?, Advocacy and self-advocacy: Tools for securing
equal access to health care and health insurance, Tendon
transfer for individuals with spinal cord injury,
Assistive Technology resources for children and adults and
much more.
