WHAT: Thousands of individuals with disabilities, from throughout
the Great Lakes Region, along with their family members and
caregivers, will be gathering at the I-X Center in Cleveland,
OH this weekend for Abilities Expo. This leading consumer show
and conference also attracts senior citizens and healthcare
and education professionals who attend to find out about the
newest products and services that are available. The show
kicks-off Friday, October 12 and runs through Sunday, October
14, 2001. On-site, attendees will be able to enjoy first-hand:
-- The Wheelchair Cavs, a community outreach team for the
Cleveland Cavaliers and a member of the National
Wheelchair Basketball Association, will be on-site from
noon to 4:00PM each day of the event. The team will
perform a game exhibition and demonstrate how they use
their wheelchairs to play the sport while answering any
questions.
-- The latest products introduced to the market including
vans, clothing, lifts, wheelchairs, toys, support
services, 3-wheel scooters, computers, sports and exercise
equipment, daily living aids, personal care products and
much more.
-- A conference program designed by Stanley D. Klein, PhD, a
licensed clinical psychologist and co-editor of You Will
Dream New Dreams, a book consisting of essays by "veteran
parents" prepared for new parents of children with
disabilities. Dr. Klein will be available throughout the
three-day event to sign copies of the book, which prepares
new parents of children with disabilities. Free consumer
workshops will highlight such topics as, Everyone can
travel, Resources for accessible travel, Resources to
assist you in starting your own business, Your employment
rights under ADA, Words really do matter! Preferred
terminology and disability sensitivity, Health insurance
issue for persons with disabilities, Cutting edge
augmentative communication systems, Reach for it-Make your

relationships and much more
