Panelists: Tom Hayden Hayden was a leader of the student, civil rights and anti-war movements in the Sixties, and the environmental and anti-nuclear movements in the Seventies. He was elected to the California State Assembly The California State Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature. Carolyn Marvin, Ph.D., Frances Yates Professor of Communication, Annenberg School of Journalism, University of Pennsylvania Marvin is the author of Blood Sacrifice and the Nation: Totem Rituals and the American Flag; and an accomplished essayist and teacher with expertise in cultural studies, freedom of expression, and the history of communication technologies. John Diaz, Editorial Page Editor, San Francisco Chronicle Diaz has served as The Chronicle's editorial page editor since 1996. He has won numerous regional and statewide awards during his tenure and served as a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes in 2001 and 2002.
