WHAT: Dr. Robert Ballard, the discoverer of the wreck of the R.M.S. Titanic,
will team with acclaimed marine life artist Wyland for expedition XII of the
JASON Project, an interactive classroom educational program that broadcasts
live to millions of students around the world. The Jason XII program, entitled
"Hawai'i -- A Living Laboratory," will focus on the volcanoes, terrestrial and
aquatic ecosystems and rich cultural history of Hawaii. As a featured guest,
Wyland will introduce techniques for students to help them reflect upon and
draw what they have learned. WHO: Wyland, 44, is best known for his huge

the JASON Project for years," Wyland said. "I consider it an honor to
collaborate with Dr. Ballard in an effort to bridge the worlds of art and
science." WHY: The JASON Project offers students and teachers in grades 4-9 a
comprehensive, multimedia approach to learning in science, technology, math,
geography and associated disciplines. The project delivers its educational
content through a print curriculum, videos, fully interactive Internet
programming, and live satellite "telepresence" broadcasts. "Adding a visual
arts component to our curriculum gives students a tremendous opportunity to
learn through another style," said Tim Armour, executive director of the JASON
Project.
