What: This year's City of Los Angeles Rose Parade float
will be on display on Dec. 31. The float, which
is composed of approximately 30,000 colorful
flowers, features a giant 35-foot trophy made of
silver leaves that produce a high-sheen reflective
quality. The trophy is a replica of the Rose Parade
Sweepstakes trophy, which was awarded in early Rose
Parades. The City of Los Angeles was the first
winner of the Rose Parade Sweepstakes trophy.
Why: This year's float, sponsored by the Los Angeles
Department of Water and Power (DWP), marks the

Parade -- the longest consecutive participant in the
history of the Tournament of Roses. Los Angeles has
a long tradition of winning and to celebrate our
pride in this history, the theme of this year's
float is "City of Champions" and will feature 14
outstanding city employees representing several city
departments as float riders.
