Nova Southeastern University History
Originally named Nova University of Advanced Technology, the university was chartered by the state of Florida in 1964 as a graduate institution in the physical and social sciences. President Ray Ferrero, Jr., (center), receives the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN SEFLIN Southeast Florida Library Information Network ) Horizon Award, from SEFLIN executive director Tom Sloan (right). Ferrero was honored for his successful efforts in partnering with Broward County in the construction of NSU's five-story Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, a 325,000 square-foot, joint use facility. The largest library in the state will provide the entire Broward county community accessibility to 1.4 million volumes, 20 electronic classrooms, computer laboratories, state-of-the-art technology demonstration areas with 1,000 user seats, all with Internet connection, and a 500 seat perfoming arts theatre The Arts Theatre is a small club theatre in London, England.
In August 1955, Peter Hall, aged 24, directed the English-language premiere of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot at the theatre. This was an important turning point in modern theatre for Britain. . Completion of the high-tech library is scheduled for fall 2001.
