ADVISORY...for Thursday and Friday (May 18 & 19)

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

On Thursday, May 18, 2000, and Friday, May 19, 2000, two renowned Paul Mitchell(R) hairstylists will make consecutive day guest appearances on NBC's "Later Today" program.

During May Sweeps, "Later Today" is featuring a weeklong series on great hair. Hosted by Jodi Applegate, Florence Henderson, and Asha Blake, "Later Today" is broadcast live with a studio audience Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time). "Later Today" is taped and re-broadcast at 9:00 a.m. Mountain, Central, and Pacific times.

On Thursday, May 18, 2000, Angus Mitchell, Paul Mitchell(R) Platform Artist, will focus on straight hairstyles. He will discuss the best techniques to create stick straight hairstyles on all textures of hair, as well as how to maintain those looks even in summer's worst humidity.

On Friday, May 19, 2000, during the finale segment, Robert Cromeans, Paul Mitchell(R) Artistic Director, will showcase the most outrageous summer hairdos imaginable, some using a stapler (yes, a stapler) and a fork to separate and style hair. He will also offer advice on how to protect hair during the summer months, how to achieve cool styles during hot weather, and tips on keeping hair looking good while traveling.

Angus Mitchell, son of the late Paul Mitchell, who co-founded John Paul Mitchell Systems(R) with John Paul DeJoria in 1980, joined the company as a hairstylist in January of 1996 after studying with Vidal Sassoon. Since then, he has traveled throughout the United States performing on stage at hair shows with Scott Cole and Linda Yodice, Artistic Directors of JPMS the color(TM). Angus has also worked with Richard Dalton, Fashion Director of Paul Mitchell Systems(R), behind the scenes at fashion shows during several seasons of 7th on Sixth, where he styled hair for designers Halston, Joan Vass, Anand Jon, Donald Deal, and Marc Bouwer among others. Mr. Dalton was the longtime personal hairstylist to the late Diana Princess Wales.

After arriving in the United States from his native Glasgow, Scotland, in 1985, Robert Cromeans was discovered by Jeanne Braa, John Paul Mitchell Systems(R)' renowned educator and platform artist. He has represented John Paul Mitchell Systems(R) on stage in the United States, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Japan, Guam, Mexico, and throughout The Americas, and was recently named one of the top 75 educators of all time by Modern Salon Magazine. He and his wife, Margaret, own four highly successful A Robert Cromeans Salons, three in San Diego, California, and one at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Robert is also the producer of the much-in-demand CD, "The Art of Making Money," which helps to inspire stylists to enjoy and believe in their craft as much as he does. The CD details his philosophy for achieving success and happiness as a salon professional.

JOHN PAUL MITCHELL SYSTEMS(R) supports the Campaign for Consumer Product Safety, a public service of the Washington, D.C.-based Coalition Against Product Tampering, whose purpose is to educate consumers about the importance of product identification codes. The company is a leader in the national effort to protect all consumers from unscrupulous individuals who tamper with products and decode products, thus endangering the safety of everyone, especially children. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, D.C., an independent federal regulatory agency responsible for protecting families and children from hazardous consumer products, wrote in a staff opinion that H.R. 2100 would "... provide valuable additional protection for consumers," and that "... its enactment would be a benefit to consumers." The Honorable Robert Goodlatte (R-Virginia) and The Honorable Zoe Lofgren (D-California) jointly introduced H.R. 2100 in the United States House of Representatives. The Honorable Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) and The Honorable Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vermont) jointly introduced S. 2105 (companion legislation to H.R. 2100) in the United States Senate.

JOHN PAUL MITCHELL SYSTEMS(R) (http://www.paulmitchell.com) is the leading privately owned professional hair care company in the United States. With sales at retail of approximately US$600 million annually, JOHN PAUL MITCHELL SYSTEMS(R) markets more than 90 products (including PAUL MITCHELL(R), JPMS the color(TM) and Modern Elixirs(TM) brands) in 45 countries through approximately 110,000 hair salons.
