WHAT: Abilities Expo/New England, the one show dedicated to
educating and improving the lives of people with
disabilities, senior citizens, their families &
caregivers, as well as healthcare and education
professionals, will take place at the Bayside Expo Center
in Boston from September 20-22, 2002. The show floor and
educational program will provide attendees a chance to
discover and learn about new products and services -- from
computers to athletic equipment and mobility products to
daily living aids -- all conveniently displayed to see,
test and compare.
On-site, attendees will be able to enjoy first-hand:
-- Skiing and Snowboarding demonstrations presented by the
New England Handicapped Sports Association as well as
Inspirational Seated Aerobic Exercise demonstrations,
presented by Carmiletta Wiggins. Dates and times of
presentations will be available on-site.
-- Several artists with disabilities will demonstrate
their talents: Michael Kouchavlis will showcase
sculpture and paintings; Dieter Stark will show
photographic art; Jessica Vohs will show watercolors
and painting of silk scarves; Ayisha Knight will
showcase photograph, prints, frames and postcards;
George Russo will showcase clay sculptures; and Marilyn
Casey, Ronald G. Mueller, Robert Steinman, William
Kinnear and Joseph "Jedi" Dee will showcase a variety
of watercolors, ceramics, oil and acrylic painting.
-- The latest products introduced to this $1 billion
market including, lifts, wheelchairs, toys, vans,
clothing, support services, 3-wheel scooters,
computers, sports and exercise equipment, daily living
aids, personal care products and much more.
-- A conference program, which will run throughout the
show, has been designed to discuss and touch on issues
and challenges and address them in a healthy and
productive way. Stanley D. Klein, Ph.D., a licensed
clinical psychologist and co-editor of "You Will
Dream New Dreams" developed the educational curriculum.
Topics will include: Using high-challenge sports to
gain function, Financial and estate planning for
individuals with disabilities, Practical approaches to
parenting children with disabilities, Making sure that
websites and other information technology is
accessible, Motivational and inspirational aerobics for
people with special needs, Sex and disability, and much
more.
