 ADVANTA CHOOSES THE GILLESPIE ORGANIZATION
TO HANDLE ITS CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT
PRINCETON, N.J., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gillespie Organization, a full-service marketing communications agency based here, has been chosen to handle direct marketing and advertising for the credit card business of Advanta (NASDAQ: ADVNA, ADVNB), Horsham, Pa.
Advanta, through its subsidiary Colonial National Bank USA, has more than $2 billion in credit card receivables and more than 2 million customers, ranking it among the top 20 national issuers of VISA and MasterCard and one of the top 10 issuers of gold cards.
"This is a substantial win for us," said Dick Gillespie, president of the agency. He said the account will be handled on a fee basis and estimated the annual agency fee to be around $2.5 million-plus, making it one of the largest accounts ever awarded to a New Jersey-based agency.
Gillespie added, "Our proposal highlighted both our strategic and creative capabilities and combined brand-identity advertising with traditional direct-response marketing. We competed against the best in the East for this prestigious account, and now we are eager to put our talents and ideas to work."
Robert Marshall, president of Advanta's Credit Card Division, said, "Although we continue to grow our portfolio at attractive rates, we need to keep the competitive edge by continually marketing a better product for our customers. The Gillespie Organization has exhibited the type of creative thinking and energy we need to help us achieve that goal. We welcome them as our marketing partner."
The Gillespie Organization, with estimated annual billings of $90 million, includes advertising and public relations companies and Magazine Marketing, Inc., a direct-response consulting firm for the publishing industry. The 19-year-old company is ranked one of the four largest in both the New Jersey and Philadelphia-metro markets.
Advanta, a highly focused direct marketer of select consumer financial services, managed assets of $3.4 billion as of March 31, 1992. The company principally originates and services credit cards and home equity loans nationwide. Other businesses include equipment leasing, credit insurance and deposit products.
