ADVANCED LOGIC RESEARCH ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY RESULTS
FOR ITS 1992 FIRST QUARTER
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Logic Research (NASDAQ: AALR) announced today that it expects revenue for its first fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991 to be approximately $48 million, which is lower than the $49.8 million reported for the comparable quarter a year ago. At this revenue level, net income is expected to be significantly below the $3.1 million earned in the year-ago quarter due to higher operating expense levels and lower gross margins.
During the quarter, the company improved its cash position to approximately $33 million at Dec. 31, 1991 from $23.4 million at Sept. 30, 1991. The company expects to report final operating results for the quarter in the first week of February 1992.
"During this quarter we saw a market place that demanded computers to be priced more aggressively," said Gene Lu, chairman, president and chief executive officer. "In November we adjusted and brought out aggressively-priced i486/33 Business VEISA systems -- at less than $2,000. And in January we will further respond to this trend by launching and shipping the newly designed PowerFlex FLYER, an under $1,000 386SX entry-level hard-disk PC. Our operating plan is currently under review to ensure that our resources are allocated properly to execute these new lower margin product strategies.
"In spite of these market conditions, we will maintain our key strategy for selling only through established channels (Intelligent Electronics, ComputerLand, JWP Businessland, major distributors and resellers), and focus on international growth opportunities. International revenue accounted for approximately 40 percent of total revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 1992 as compared to 35 percent for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1991," Lu concluded.
