network planner, a software tool designed to greatly simplify the process of planning and designing networks based on its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 metro transport solutions together with ADVA's feeder products. The FSP network planner comes with an intuitively rich graphical user interface and enables Service Providers to rapidly deploy complex networking solutions.

"Planning today's networks is a complex and time consuming activity," stated Brian P. McCann, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at ADVA Optical Networking. "Variables such as dynamic traffic patterns, quality of service, costs, fault-tolerance, and expected growth must be considered carefully. Network planners typically have to evaluate several network configurations before they finalize one; this is tedious, inefficient, and prone to errors. By using the FSP network planner the planning process is dramatically simplified and optimal solutions are generated in a very short time. This helps the service provider in planning and bidding for projects saving huge costs in configuration errors and purchasing mistakes. Furthermore, it enables service providers to rapidly deploy FSP based networks, and generate revenues quicker".

The FSP network planner is a Windows-based program which guides the user through a step-by-step process of determining the overall network requirements, and subsequently calculates the optimal network plan to satisfy these requirements. It provides the overall topology, architecture, wavelength plan, and the equipment requirements - it even produces a detailed part list (including the respective prices) and a cable running list if required.

Beta-tested extensively by ADVA's service provider customers, a live demonstration of the FSP network planner can also be seen at the ADVA booth #4408 at NFOEC 2001 in Baltimore on July 9 - 12.
