SAUGUS - Santa Clarita Adult Day Health Care, the only licensed center of its type in the Santa Clarita Valley, will celebrate 15 years of service to the community on Saturday.

Averaging 50 attendees a day, the program provides nursing care; physical, occupational and speech therapy; therapeutic recreational activities; social services; care management; counseling support; plus transportation, meals and snacks.

The center serves mostly seniors, although 19 percent are younger clients with brain injuries, mental health concerns or developmental disabilities.

``Our families and the community call on us for counseling, support groups and referrals,'' said Linda Alexander-Lieblang, program director for the past 12 years. ``We are an excellent resource for caregivers in the Santa Clarita Valley who are looking for an alternative to in-home care or placing a loved one in a nursing home.''

Most of the staff members have been with the program for many years, providing a deep understanding of the special care needed by clients. A new Community Advisory Board is spearheading community awareness and helping to raise funds for families who cannot afford to pay for services for their loved ones.
