HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998--ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) announced today that GTE Network Services, a unit of GTE Corp., will use the ADTRAN Total Reach(R) Digital Data Services (DDS) system throughout its 22-state service territory.

ADTRAN's Total Reach DDS system reduces the copper required to deploy DDS/Frame Relay services from two pairs to one, and eliminates the need for repeaters to deliver the service to extended distances.

Total Reach technology permits DDS/Frame Relay service delivery up to 50,000 feet from the central office without expensive repeaters (signal regenerators). Previously, repeaters were required to deliver DDS to distances beyond 18,000 feet.

Total Reach DDS uses ADTRAN's Simple Coded Pulse Amplitude Modulation (SC PAM(TM)) technology. Total Reach technology was first introduced by ADTRAN as a highly successful repeaterless delivery solution for ISDN.
