), the world's leading supplier of Outside Plant (OSP) DSLAMs, today announced the Total Access([R]) 1124P Outside Plant Broadband Multimedia Gateway (OSP BMG), allowing service providers to deliver baseband POTS and broadband multimedia to any customer over a single phone line. The Total Access 1124P combines the technology and cost-saving benefits of the OSP DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) A central office (CO) device for ADSL service that intermixes voice traffic and DSL traffic onto a customer's DSL line. It also separates incoming phone and data signals and directs them onto the appropriate carrier's network. See DSL.  with a POTS to Voice over IP (VoIP) gateway to expand service delivery in the access network. Environmentally sealed and hardened, the Total Access 1124P operates with ADTRAN's Total Access 5000 MSAP (MultiService Access Platform) An integration device located on a carrier's premises that supports a variety of protocols. It acts like a central switch between all of the customer's communications technologies and the carrier side, which is the PSTN, the  family to provide a complete broadband access solution.

"Finding a cost-effective and reliable means to extend broadband coverage is a major challenge for carriers of all sizes," said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst, Broadband and IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet. , Infonetics. "ADTRAN's Total Access 1124P is a flexible solution that meets these objectives. It cost-effectively enables triple play services, allowing carriers to extend their reach and grow their revenue base."

"Broadband will enable the greatest revenue opportunities, and VoIP offers tremendous savings over traditional voice switches," said Eric Vallone, director of product management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "The 1124P is a simple and extremely cost-effective approach to address these two major challenges."

As a member of ADTRAN's family of OSP DSLAMs, the Total Access 1124P OSP Broadband Multimedia Gateway can be mounted at pole, crossbox, and remote terminal locations without additional enclosures, greatly decreasing the operational and capital expenditures associated with deploying alternative cabinet-based solutions. It can be locally or line-powered and is equipped with integrated splitters and primary protection.

In areas where only copper connectivity is available, the Total Access 1124P can be equipped with an optional Ethernet in the First Mile Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM), also known as IEEE 802.3ah, is a collection of protocols specified in IEEE 802.3, defining the Ethernet in the Access networks, i.e. First/Last Mile.  over Copper (EFMC EFMC European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry

Where fiber is available, the Total Access 1124P is a powerful Fiber To The Node Fiber to the node (FTTN), also called fiber to the neighborhood or fiber to the cabinet (FTTCab),[1] is a telecommunication architecture based on fiber-optic cables run to a cabinet serving a neighborhood.  (FTTN (Fiber To The Neighborhood or Fiber To The Node) See FTTC. ) device, utilizing Gigabit Ethernet uplinks for greater bandwidth capacity. With the flexibility to serve both copper and fiber-fed locations, the OSP BMG enables complete multimedia offerings over a next-generation Ethernet infrastructure.
