 range extension equipment.

The new ADTRAN BRIDLE (Basic Rate ISDN Dual Loop Extender See Media Center Extender, bus extender and DOS extender. ) products will give service providers the ability to deliver Basic Rate ISDN service over two copper pairs to customers located at distances of up to 28,000 feet without repeaters. Telcos will realize the benefit of these products in terms of reduced costs and turn-up time associated with service deployment.

"The new Bridle equipment will provide a cost-effective method of offering Basic Rate ISDN to virtually any location where copper pairs are plentiful and a repeater is not warranted," Product Manager Wayne Cranford said.

BRIDLE provides for the transport of Basic Rate ISDN over a Dual (4-wire) Half Rate 2B1Q interface. The central office card, BRIDLE-C, is Type 400 compatible and interfaces with the local ISDN switch via an ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  T1.601 Basic Rate Interface. The BRIDLE-C transports the 160 kbps BRI See ISDN.

signal over two twisted wire pairs to the remote (BRIDLE-R) at distances of up to 28,000 feet.

"This dual pair arrangement takes advantage of the fact that lower frequency signals can be transmitted over greater distances," Cranford said.

The Type 400 BRIDLE-R, which can be at or near the customer's premises, provides the ANSI T1.601 network interface (NI) to the customer's Network Termination (NT1). The BRIDLE-R, which is line powered by the BRIDLE-C, can be located at up to 18,000 ft from the customer's NT1 for a total wire/cable plant of 46,000 feet.

The BRIDLE-C and BRIDLE-R mount in the ADTRAN 19- or 23-inch shelves and stand alone Type 400 housing. In addition, gel- and air-filled versions of T400 housings are available for use in outside environments. Test features for both the BRIDLE-C and BRIDLE-R allow for circuit segmentation and trouble isolation, and tests can be initiated from either an ISDN switch or other compatible device. The BRIDLE-C and BRIDLE-R each list for $725 and will be available June 1995.
