ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) introduced today a new DSL technology that enables telephone companies to surpass the distance limitations of ADSL to provide high-speed DSL services to remote businesses and work-at-home customers. Called Total Reach SDSL (TR SDSL), this technology provides repeaterless options for deploying SDSL services to customers throughout a carrier's service area at rates up to eight times faster than ISDN.

This new technology allows carriers to cost effectively deploy varying rates of high bandwidth DSL services, ranging from 144 kbps up to 1 Mbps, to customers at extended distances without repeaters. Prior to this introduction, service providers could not uniformly deploy high-speed data services because of the distance limitations and interference problems found in currently deployed technologies.

Already, ADTRAN has begun incorporating TR SDSL into its Frame Access line of products. When work-at-home individuals need high-speed access to large databases, computer programs, Internet, corporate intranet and e-mail, the Frame Access product line offers the central office and remote site equipment necessary for high-bandwidth networking.
