) today unveiled the newest member of its TRACER Series of fixed wireless products, the TRACER 5045 license-free wireless bridge with integral Ethernet switching functionality. The TRACER 5045 supports link distances of more than 25 miles. It combines the benefits of a 90 Mbps bridge (45 Mbps full duplex), with an integrated four port Ethernet switch in a compact, energy-efficient form factor at the lowest price in the industry. It provides switching functionality between LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  ports and bridges protocols over the wireless link. The combination of these features allows users to implement LAN networks with the purchase of a single piece of networking equipment at host and remote locations.

This product addresses the needs of enterprise customers, one of the fastest growing markets for wireless connectivity. With 28 times the bandwidth of a single T1, the TRACER 5045 is ideal for a number of enterprise applications including WAN/LAN integration, LAN extension using Ethernet bridging/switching, and LAN-to-LAN connectivity. TRACER 5045 also complements existing wireless access point solutions by extending traffic over longer distances. Additionally, service providers can use this product for backhauling 802.11x traffic to a central location. The addition of switching functionality can be used to eliminate bottlenecks in the network, improve application performance, and relieve network congestion. This simplifies network operation and increases network efficiency.

Housed in a space-saving 1U chassis, one-half the size of other rackmount solutions, the TRACER 5045 offers customers unmatched energy efficiency. Designed to operate in the 5.8 GHz ISM band, this product consumes one-half the power of comparable U-NII U-NII Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (bandwith for wireless LAN Networks by FCC 5.15-5.35 GHz and 5.75-5.825 GHz)  band products, while producing twice as much transmit power. Believed to be the industry's first ISM band radio with combined bridging/switching functionality, the TRACER 5045 also allows longer effective link distances to be obtained because there is no radiated power limitation in this band.

"With a list price of $6995, TRACER 5045 offers customers a rapid return on investment. Depending upon T1 and T3 wireline tarrifs, the return on investment is less than a year in many areas," said Dan Pritchett, ADTRAN director of wireless products. " The TRACER 5045, when combined with ADTRAN's industry-leading warranty and best-in-class service and support, is a must for enterprises requiring fixed broadband wireless LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network  connectivity."

The TRACER 5045 is scheduled for production shipments in May 2003.
