ADTRAN Expands MSPP with the Addition of OC-48 and EFM Bonding; New Capabilities Further Enhance Converged Services Solutions.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- ADTRAN(R), Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading supplier of network access equipment, today announced the addition of OC-48 OC-48 - Optical Carrier 48 (2.488 Gbps) and Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM EFM - Edge Fault Model

). The OPTI-6100 now provides scalability from OC-3 to OC-48, making it perfectly positioned to address virtually any access or metro ring application. The new system enables delivery of Ethernet, DS1, DS3, and optical services directly from OC-48 rings in the compact OPTI-6100 form factor, thereby minimizing cost and space requirements. The OPTI-6100 offers the flexibility to add additional network bandwidth, upgrade existing optical rings, and support Next-Generation Ethernet services.

ADTRAN's addition of EFM to the platform provides carriers with the means to host multiple bonded circuits and aggregate these circuits into a single element, thus eliminating the need for multiple stand-alone pieces of equipment. This increases network efficiency, simplifies network support, leverages existing OPTI-6100 systems, and reduces overall costs for carriers and their customers.

"Next-generation services are driving the demand for higher capacity fiber rings and carriers are looking for cost-effective solutions to meet these needs," said Eric Vallone, director of product management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "This compact yet powerful platform offers the converged service capability, functionality, and scalability carriers need to address a variety of network topologies while minimizing deployment costs."
