"We want to provide a rather detailed session, offering an overview and expert presentations on the various aspects of the video delivery network: head end, access network, home network, middleware, security and project management," states Schneider. "Sunday's session will include major players, whose technologies can enable Local Exchange Carriers (LEC (1) (LAN Emulation Client) A software driver that provides LAN emulation (LANE) in an ATM network. It resides in an ATM end station or in a computer system that provides the LAN to ATM conversion, often known as a LAN access device. "As a leader in copper network access, we have studied the video over DSL application with the intent of determining whether it can provide the LEC with the infrastructure needed to compete with cable and satellite offerings. With the pending arrival of several new industry standards, ADTRAN now sees that this is possible."

"The completion of a new standard for multipair bonding, when combined with recent advances in DSL and video coding technologies, will provide a path to support High-Definition programming without abandoning the existing copper loop plant. Before the arrival of these standards, the data rates required to provide High-Definition programming were only available via fiber or over short loop lengths using VDSL See DSL.

ADTRAN is actively participating in efforts to create an open standard for multipair bonded, subscriber loops. ADTRAN is currently incorporating key bonding, DSL and compression technologies into their Total Access DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor) A central office (CO) device for ADSL service that intermixes voice traffic and DSL traffic onto a customer's DSL line. It also separates incoming phone and data signals and directs them onto the appropriate carrier's network. See DSL.  System portfolio. Additionally, ADTRAN is working with major video equipment and software suppliers to maximize interoperability ensuring choice and flexibility for interested service providers.
