ADTRAN Brings High Density to M13 Market; Cabling and Protection Innovations Set New Standards.

Business Editors & Technology Writers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2003

ADTRAN(TM), Inc. (Nasdaq:ADTN ADTN Administrative Data Transmission Network
ADTN Administrative Data Telecommunications Network
), The Network Access Company and leading provider of telecommunications equipment, today announced the release of the MX2820(TM), a high-density multiplexer that provides nine fully redundant M13s in a 23 in. rack, only 2U high. Simplified management, cost savings, space efficiency, and an improved protection system make the MX2820 the most compelling multiplexing solution on the market today.

"The continued demands for improving space and network efficiency have established the need for a higher density M13 system," states Jay Wilson, director of product management for ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "The MX2820 fulfills that need with innovations in cable management, 1:1 protection and network management previously unavailable in our industry."

This NEBS-compliant, fully redundant multiplexer features 1:1 protection, intuitive menus, local craft and Telnet interfaces, and stored provisioning data on both active and standby multiplexers. With the ability to terminate over 1700 T1s in a 7-foot rack, the MX2820 requires only one IP address to manage all nine M13 multiplexers and also includes SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  and TL1 remote management, flash download capability, and effective cable management.

ADTRAN strives to understand the needs of telcos and service providers, and designs products such as the MX2820 to meet cost, operational, and growth objectives for its customers.
