Protection Switch Is Latest Addition to ADTRAN's

Growing TRACER Family of Fixed Broadband Wireless Products

ADTRAN(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:ADTN ADTN Administrative Data Transmission Network
ADTN Administrative Data Telecommunications Network
), today announced the addition of the TRACER(R) Protection Switch to the TRACER(R) family of wireless products. The introduction was made at the IWCE trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The TRACER Protection Switch provides monitored hot-standby capability for TRACER digital microwave radio systems. Located between two identical 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz radios that share a single antenna, the Protection Switch monitors the primary radio for alarm conditions. In the event of a primary radio alarm, the signal is automatically switched to the backup radio unit to ensure continued operation of the TRACER system.

"The TRACER Protection Switch provides added security and reliability for critical broadband networks," said Dan Pritchett, ADTRAN Director of Wireless Products. "The TRACER family of fixed broadband wireless products enables enterprise and carrier customers to cost-effectively provide network connectivity in locations that were previously unreachable, protecting against network downtime."

The TRACER Protection Switch will sell for a list price of $2,495 with shipment scheduled to begin in May.

TRACER digital microwave radio equipment uses spread-spectrum technology to provide two independent T1 or E1 communication links. As authorized under part 15.247 of the FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  rules, TRACER operates in the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM See ISM band. ) band and can operate license-free in the U.S. and many other countries.

Three Dual T1 or E1 TRACER radios are presently available: 2.4 GHz (20 dBm), 2.4 GHz (30 dBm), and 5.8 GHz (20 dBm). The industry's first NEBS Level 3 compliant spread-spectrum radio, TRACER(R) meets the strict requirements for performance, quality, and safety required by the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) for equipment installed in their Central Offices. TRACER is available in mastmounted or rackmounted configurations.
