ADTRAN Announces 'e' Series T1 DSU/CSUs With Embedded SNMP; TSU Family Provides Modularity, Application Flexibility and Multiple Management Methods.HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1997--ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on : ADTN ADTN Administrative Data Transmission Network ADTN Administrative Data Telecommunications Network ), (www.adtran.com) today announced its new TSU Tsu (ts ), city (1990 pop. 157,177), capital of Mie prefecture, S Honshu, Japan, on Ise Bay. It is a commercial and manufacturing center, with glass, machine, and food-processing factories. 'e' series of T1 network termination devices. The TSU multiplexer family is enhanced with embedded SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. for simplified configuration, monitoring and maintenance of networking elements, and also features flexible expansion slots for supporting multiple end-user applications. "The ability to simply plug in modules for expanding the number of data and voice ports makes the ADTRAN T1 multiplexers the most flexible in the industry," explained Everett Brooks, ADTRAN product manager. "For example, optional modules are available to easily connect equipment for LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network bridging, videoconferencing, network backup and a variety of other voice and data applications. This inherent flexibility lets customers make the most of their T1 circuit by permitting expansion to additional applications as needs dictate. In addition, the new 'e' series uses SNMP to integrate management of T1 devices with other networking elements for even easier monitoring and control." Prior to ADTRAN's expandable TSU family, companies anticipating future growth were required to purchase T1 connectivity devices with functionality greater than their current needs. Or, they risked having to purchase additional devices later, as they connected new data and voice equipment to their T1 line. The TSU 100e is a T1 DSU/CSU (Digital (or Data) Service Unit/Channel Service Unit) A pair of communications devices that connect an inhouse line to an external digital circuit (T1, DDS, etc.). that includes a V.35 port with built-in dial backup support. It also provides a single expansion slot for accepting one application-specific module with up to four additional interface ports for connecting devices to a T1 line. The TSU 120e provides the same features, but also integrates a DSX-1 interface into the base unit to support PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). applications. The TSU 600e delivers the most capacity for full T1 multiplexing applications. It provides six expansion slots for up to 24 interface ports. The TSU 600e also supports a redundant power supply to protect critical data and voice applications. With the addition of SNMP, the ADTRAN TSU 'e' series can be easily configured and monitored from any compliant PC or workstation. To support access to SNMP features, the devices have both a 10BaseT Ethernet and a SLIP (EIA-232) connection. Control functions are also available through an enhanced VT-100 terminal screen, a back-lit LCD and a front panel keyboard. Management of multiple units is made easy with EIA-232 Control-In and Control-Out ports that permit daisy-chaining. The 'e' series also provides 'proxy' functions for up to 16 ADTRAN non-SNMP T1 devices. This means customers who have used previous ADTRAN TSU devices can now benefit from SNMP simply by adding a single 'e' series device. To further simplify ease of installation and use, ADTRAN provides optional management software for the TSU family. T-Watch PRO is an affordable solution that delivers familiar, Microsoft Windows(R)-based control, configuration and testing of multiple TSU devices. More robust management functions are available through ADVISION(TM) software, which runs on SNMP enterprise management systems such as HP OpenView(TM). The ADTRAN TSU family includes built-in comprehensive testing and troubleshooting tools for isolating and pinpointing problems quickly. In the event of problems, SNMP alarms to the host workstation are supported, as well as dial-outs to pagers or similar alert devices. The ADTRAN TSU 100e and 120e are priced at $1,895 and $2,195, respectively. The TSU 600e is $2,595. A range of plug-in application modules and accessories for ADTRAN TSUs is also available. The T-Watch Pro management software is priced at $495 and ADVISION at $5,995.
