The ISU 128 is particularly well suited for applications such as LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network connectivity, high speed data transfer, disaster recovery, and audio broadcasting. "We've taken a product that's already a trusted source of ISDN connectivity and, in keeping with ADTRAN's corporate philosophy, added new features while reducing the price of the unit," ADTRAN ISDN Product Manager Leslie Conway said. New features include remote configuration capabilities, Multilink PPP for Internet access, and a VT100 terminal interface to aid in configuration of the unit. Remote configuration and extensive diagnostic capabilities allow ADTRAN units to be configured and maintained from a centralized location without the need for onsite support. Remote configuration can be achieved two ways; internally over the ISDN line or externally through the maintenance port. According to ADTRAN's Vice President of Marketing Danny Windham: "The remote configuration capabilities were developed specifically for network managers; those supporting many remote sites or hundred employees working at home." The list price for the second generation ISU 128 is $895, that's a price reduction of $100 over the first generation, with availability slated for May 1996.
