 128. ADTRAN's ISU 128 provides cost-effective high speed data transmission at rates up to 128 kbps and interoperates with existing network services and data communications products, including V.34 analog modems.

The ISU 128 is a full featured ISDN terminal adapter A device that adapts a computer to a digital ISDN line. Like a modem, it plugs into the serial port of the computer or into an expansion slot. Some terminal adapters use the parallel port for higher speed.  with an integral NT1 in a standalone unit. Its robust feature set has made the ISU 128 one of the most popular ISDN terminal adapters on the market and contributed to making ADTRAN the largest North American supplier of ISDN terminal adapters, according to Dataquest's May '95 report. The ISU 128 is particularly well suited for applications such as LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network  connectivity, high speed data transfer, disaster recovery, and audio broadcasting.

"We've taken a product that's already a trusted source of ISDN connectivity and, in keeping with ADTRAN's corporate philosophy, added new features while reducing the price of the unit," ADTRAN ISDN Product Manager Leslie Conway said.

New features include remote configuration capabilities, Multilink PPP for Internet access, and a VT100 terminal interface to aid in configuration of the unit. In addition to the RS-530 and V.35 DTE (Data Terminating Equipment) A communications device that is the source or destination of signals on a network. It is typically a terminal or computer.  interfaces, the ISU 128 now supports an RS-232 interface. The new ISU 128 is also available with an integral V.34 analog modem in place of the previous V.32bis capability.

Remote configuration and extensive diagnostic capabilities allow ADTRAN units to be configured and maintained from a centralized location without the need for onsite support. Remote configuration can be achieved two ways; internally over the ISDN line or externally through the maintenance port.

According to ADTRAN's Vice President of Marketing Danny Windham: "The remote configuration capabilities were developed specifically for network managers; those supporting many remote sites or hundred employees working at home."

The list price for the second generation ISU 128 is $895, that's a price reduction of $100 over the first generation, with availability slated for May 1996.
