ADP announces HRMS IT outsourcing solution; CSS HRizon Alliance provides implementation and maintenance of hardware and leading client/server software for human resources, benefits, payroll.

ROSELAND, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996--Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) -- the country's largest provider of fully-integrated human resources, benefits and payroll solutions -- today announced a new IT outsourcing solution for the Human Resource Management System.

Called CSS HRizon Alliance, ADP will provide a client/server outsourcing solution, taking complete responsibility for providing, implementing and supporting a client's HRMS, including the hardware, database and application software.

The application software used is Version 7.0 of ADP's CSS HRizon, the latest release of the industry's leading client/server HRMS, previously called the Client Server Series (CSS) HRMS.

Alliance has been in production at its pilot site at the headquarters of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford, Conn. since November.

"After we pioneered the flexible choice of offering both in-house or outsourced payroll for large companies, we found a market demand for IT outsourcing of the other parts of the HRMS."

CSS HRizon Alliance is the first of a family of software products and HRMS solutions based on the CSS HRizon software offered by ADP's National Accounts Division. The software currently has more than 150 clients in the United States with 65 in production.

The latest release of CSS HRizon, Version 7.0, features major technical and functional additions. (See news release, May 13, "ADP announces Version 7.0 of client/server HRMS.")

The current platforms of the Alliance IT outsourcing option are for the Oracle database running on either a Compaq ProLiant under Windows NT or a Digital AlphaServer under Windows NT. At its own facilities, ADP will install and retain responsibility for the operating system, database, and CSS HRizon applications on the client's platform (model based on client configuration).

ADP and its wholly-owned subsidiary, The Application Group, will provide all necessary implementation and maintenance services, including those typically handled by the client's in-house IT staff. The services include:

-- providing a project plan,

-- providing project management during implementation,

-- providing ongoing support and maintenance as a business partner,

-- mapping and converting employee data from the current system,

-- managing the toolkit and customizations,

-- designing and creating security,

-- providing daily systems maintenance, performance tuning, and backups,

-- applying updates to the database and to the application software, and

-- maintaining overall responsibility for a working HRMS.

The client's LAN or WAN will be connected to ADP through a dedicated high-speed telecommunications link. Additionally, non-networked locations can be connected utilizing ISDN.

Support also includes hotline 800 telephone support and connection to the CSS HRizon bulletin board on Lotus Notes. At the client's request, ADP will also create and staff a help desk at the client site.

The CSS HRizon Alliance IT outsourcing option will be available to clients starting in June. The Alliance option is service-priced according to the hardware platform and the number of employees, with prices starting at $4,200 per month. Fees for implementation and hardware vary based upon client requirements.
