ADP acquires Staff Management Systems.

ROSELAND, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 1996--Automatic Data Processing, Inc. has acquired Staff Management Systems of Florida, Inc. (SMS), Arthur F. Weinbach, president and chief executive officer, announced today. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

SMS is a leading employee leasing company located in Tampa, Florida. Employee leasing companies, also known as Professional Employer Organizations (PEO), act as co-employers, providing and administering payroll, tax filing, benefits, risk management and human resource services for businesses.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mr. Weinbach said, "SMS is a natural extension of our core payroll, tax filing and human resource capabilities. SMS enables us to enter the fast growing employee leasing field and to capitalize on the continuing trend towards complete payroll and benefits outsourcing."
