ADP Offers Faster Client Server Implmentation; Two new programs for ADP's HR Payroll applications Cut implementation time and costs in half.

ROSELAND, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 1995--Automatic Data Processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a , Inc. (ADP (1) (Automatic Data Processing) Synonymous with data processing (DP), electronic data processing (EDP) and information processing.

(2) (Automatic Data Processing, Inc., Roseland, NJ, www.adp.
)--the country's largest provider of fully integrated human resources, benefits and payroll solutions - today announced the first in a series of service programs designed to cut the time and costs of typical client/server implementations in half.

Under the programs, called CSS (1) See Cascading Style Sheets.

Fast Track and CSS Fast Link, participating clients of ADP's Client Server Series (CSS) are assured basic implementations in from three to nine months, compared to an industry average of 12 to 18 months. CSS is a leading Human Resource Management System (HRMS HRMS Human Resource Management System

) for companies with more than 1,000 employees.

Dan Drechsel, ADP's Vice President of National Accounts Marketing, said, "The time, cost and complexity of other vendors' implementations are keeping the client/server market from growing, Customers are demanding predictable client/server solutions - on time and on budget. CSS Fast Track and CSS Fast Link are programs that will deliver it for them."

The professional services for both programs will be provided by The Application Group, a wholly owned subsidiary Wholly Owned Subsidiary

of ADP and one of the country's most experienced client/server implementation and consulting firms, ADP acquired the 170-person company in September 1994.

Both programs are packages of pre-defined consulting services that include project planning, resources identification, data analysis and table setup, data mapping and conversion, and system testing with a special emphasis on providing clients with hands-on product experience.

Tim Lamb, president of ADP's National Accounts Division, said, "Since late 1989, The Application Group has worked on more client/server HRMS implementations than any other consulting firm. These service packages combine their proven methodology and extensive CSS implementation experience to get new systems in production, to help our clients become self-sufficient at running them, and to have their people finish their on-site work - all as quickly as possible."

Both programs are available to CSS clients who also use ADP's payroll service called Autopay II. Fast Track is for new Autopay II clients and provides a basic implementation of CSS and the interface to payroll within six to nine months. Fast Link is for existing payroll clients and provides basic implementations within three to six months.

Drechsel added, "These program are another indication of how ADP does business differently from software vendors. Not only have we eliminated the large up-front licensing fees associated with client/server, but now we are also cutting down the implementation costs that can five to ten times those fees."

Fast Track and Fast Link are available for all the CSS server platforms, including: Oracle on the IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  RS/6000 under AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families.  and on the HP 9000 under HP-UX HP's version of Unix that runs on its 9000 family. All programs that run in a NetWare server must be compiled into the NLM format. They are typically written in C and use Novell's libraries.  on Intel platforms. A CSS version for Sybase SQL Server Sybase SQL Server - Adaptive Server Enterprise  is scheduled for later release.

. CSS also offers three unique options that other software vendors often don't provide.

-- A choice of payroll processing either at the client's site with CSS Payroll or fully connected to ADP's Autopay II payroll service through a proprietary interface. This interface also allows clients to use ADP's other value-added services, including Taxing Filing, Direct Deposit, and Unemployment Cost Management.

-- A unique pricing structure that replaces large up-front licensing fees with a low monthly support and license fee, which also includes software upgrades, substantially lowering the cost of entry into the client/server arena.

-- Various levels of assistance to reduce implementation times.

Product Features

, and CS Payroll.

Since Windows provides the graphical user interface, data from CSS can easily be shared with other popular Windows applications, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

The monthly support and license fee includes hotline telephone support, remote diagnostics and connection to the CSS bulletin board on Lotus Notes. CSS is service-priced according to the hardware and database platform and the number of employees. Prices start at $3,000 per month.
