ADOPTED CAMPBELL'S IRA BACKGROUND.


HOST Nicky Campbell Nicholas Andrew Argyll Campbell (born April 10,1961) is a Scottish radio and television presenter and journalist. He is known for his strong views and assertive style of presenting on programmes such as the consumer affairs programme Watchdog.  was brought up by a wealthy Edinburgh couple - but his biological dad and grandad were both in the IRA.

The presenter, 46, only discovered the truth about his birth parents when he traced them in 1991.

The DJ was adopted when he was four days old and raised by adoptive parents Frank and Sheila Campbell in Edinburgh.

But he discovered he had been born in Dublin to Stella Lackey - a Protestant nurse who became pregnant out of wedlock wed·lock

Eugene Hughes, a Catholic who was briefly involved with the IRA before becoming a police detective, was the father.

He is said to resemble the Watchdog presenter and former Radio 1 DJ.

Campbell also discovered his grandfather was in the IRA at the time of the 1920s Irish Civil War The Irish Civil War (Irish: Cogadh Cathartha na hÉireann) was a conflict between supporters and opponents of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of December 6, 1921, which established the Irish Free State, precursor of today's Republic of Ireland.  and his cousin, who was in the IRA, was killed by British troops in Armagh in 1973.
