ADLINK Announces Fast, Economical, Flexible, Open Real Time Distributed I/O System.

Business Editors & High-Tech Writers

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2002

Supports Up to 32,000 Distributed I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

I/O - Input/Output

Millisecond One thousandth of a second. See space/time and ohnosecond.

(unit) millisecond - (ms) One thousandth of a second, one thousand microseconds. A long time for a modern computer.
Scan Rate The number of times per second an image capture or display device samples its field of vision. See scan line and horizontal scan frequency. See also scan technology. , 6Mbps Transmissions, and Hot Swappable See hot swap.  I/O

ADLINK Technology Inc., the leading supplier of open-platform PC based measurement and automation equipment, today introduced High Speed Link (HSL (Hue Saturation Luminosity) A color space similar to HSB. See HSB. ), an innovative technology based on open-standard for distributed real-time I/O.

HSL allows users to install a control network using only inexpensive CAT 5 cable and plain copper wire, utilizing such network to manage thousands of I/O points from an off-the-shelf industrial PC, making HSL more economical, manageable and flexible than existing solutions on the market.

Providing an easy and inexpensive way to connect PC-based controllers to their I/O points, HSL is a fast multi-drop serial technology best suited for I/O control and automation application requirements. Based on the open standard (RS-422), HSL is designed for full/half-duplex, multi-drop serial transmission. In addition, I/O modules are hot swappable to allow maximum uptime.

(2) (Dynamic Link Library) An executable program module in Windows that performs one or more functions at runtime. DLLs are not launched by the user; they are called for by an executable program or by other DLLs.

. Communication between master card and slave modules are done via hardware to assure real-time processing.

Versatile slave modules include 32-channel discrete input/output or 16-channel discrete input with 8-channel relay.

HSL enables a single PC to be configured to support more than 32,000 digital input or output points. At its capacity, all the points in the network still could be scanned in less than 2 msec without putting a burden on the host PC. Operating systems support included standard Windows 98/2000/NT, Embedded NT and Linux drivers and DLLs.
