ADIC announces DAT Autochanger with the industry's fastest 4mm DDS-2 transfer rates.

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1996--ADIC, a division of Interpoint Corp. (NASDAQ NASDAQ
in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations

U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on
:INTP INTP Introverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving (Myers-Briggs personality type indicator) ), announced today a new DAT (1) (Dynamic Address Translator) A hardware circuit that converts a virtual memory address into a real address. See also DAT file.

(2) (Digital Audio Tape) A magnetic tape technology used for backing up data.
Autoloader -- the 1200E -- a fully automated backup and archiving solution, which provides the industry's fastest DDS-2 transfer rates.

The 1200E offers the new Sony Quad-Speed SDT-7000 4mm DDS-2 drive, which provides transfer rates of 46.5 MB/minute (native) or 90 MB/minute (with 2:1 average compression) -- a rate that is 50% faster than both standard 4mm DDS-2 autoloaders and 8mm drives. The 1200E features a removable 12-tape magazine that can hold up to 96GB of data at standard on-board compression rates -- 12 times that of single DAT drives.

The 12 cartridge positions allow storage of multiple data sets for added security, provide room for a cleaning cartridge, and make it easy to rotate media for longer life. Protected by fitted covers, the magazines snap easily into place for fast loading, and they stack to provide a convenient tape storage system for archiving or off-site storage.

The 1200E is the newest model in the ADIC 1200 DAT Autochanger See autoloader.  Series, a product family that has proven its reliability in millions of field use hours. It utilizes ADIC's patented single-axis robotics to prevent misfeeds, with magazine, cartridge picker and drive clearly visible to the operator through a window in the unit's locking door. The 1200 is rated for a minimum of 100,000 cartridge changes and has an MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) The average time a component works without failure. It is the number of failures divided by the hours under observation.

MTBF - Mean Time Between Failures
 of 80,000 hours.

"Shrinking backup windows in the face of explosive data growth have network administrators perpetually trying to achieve faster transfer rates," states Bill Britts, ADIC sales and marketing vice president. "The 1200E will help solve this problem because it is built around the industry's fastest DDS-2 drive, with 50% increases across platforms. This unique combination of the Sony SDT-7000 drive with ADIC's 1200 Autochanger -- the proven reliability leader -- provides the industry's fastest 4mm automated backup solution."

The ADIC 1200E is supported by the leading backup and archive applications software for Novell NetWare (operating system, networking) Novell NetWare - Novell, Inc.'s proprietary networking operating system for the IBM PC.

NetWare uses the IPX/SPX, NetBEUI or TCP/IP network protocols. It supports MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, OS/2, Macintosh and Unix clients.

installations. It is available now at a list price of $6,295.

ADIC is the largest division of Interpoint Corp. with headquarters in Redmond, Washington, and combined 1995 revenues of $71 million. ADIC has been providing storage solutions since its founding in 1983. It is the leading drive-independent supplier of automated tape storage libraries for client-server networks with over 14,000 units in the field. ADIC products are available with 4mm (DAT), 8mm, and DLT (Digital Linear Tape) A magnetic tape technology originally developed by Digital for its VAX line. The technology was later sold to Quantum, which makes it available to other manufacturers. DLT uses half-inch, single-hub cartridges similar to IBM's 3480/3490/3590 line.  drive technology, and are supported by every leading supplier of backup and HSM (1) (Hierarchical Storage Management) The automatic movement of files from hard disk to slower, less-expensive storage media.
