ADIC Scales Unix With Its AMASS 5.0.

A DIC's version 5.0 of its AMASS for Unix storage management software enables IT departments and integrators to more effectively leverage the capacity of automated optical and tape libraries for a wide variety of large-scale storage tasks. This version provides faster user access to mission-critical data with a new advanced intelligent caching utility, and a broader range of long-term file, protection, by extending ADIC's Infinite File Life (IFL) to new platforms, and additional support for LTO Ultrium technology. The intelligent cache management speeds end-user access to important data by allowing administrators to customize the way their cache handles files by using a simple, rule based priority system that determines the policies for retaining files in cache. It supports sizes ranging from a few megabytes up to one terabyte. Extended platform support for ADIC's IFL utility helps lower the cost of protecting digital assets by automatically migrating files from older to newer media before data is lost due t o age or wear. The TFL utility tests media on a user-defined schedule, tracks read/write error rates, and renews the files by writing them to new media. This utility, covers a range of new platforms, including HP-UX, Compaq Tru64, and IBM AIX, and, new storage media, including DTF1 and AIT tape formats. This version also extends its support to devices which use the new LTO Ultrium tape technology. AMASS for UNIX 5.0 is available now through authorized AMASS dealers.
