Entry-Level Price; New Compact Tape Library From Industry's #1 Open

Systems Library Vendor

Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC), the world's largest supplier of automated tape systems for the open systems market, today unveiled a new compact tape library, the Scalar(R) 24, that offers enterprise-class performance and features at a price low enough that it could reduce the cost of reliable, high performance backup for budget-constrained IT departments by 30% or more.

The Scalar 24 is the first library in this class offered by ADIC, the world's largest supplier of automated tape storage for open systems networks.

The Scalar 24 combines the latest LTO (Linear Tape Open) A family of open magnetic tape standards developed by HP, IBM and Quantum (formerly the Certance subsidiary of Seagate) that are licensed to third-party vendors. LTO cartridges contain a memory that stores historical usage data.  or Super DLT (Digital Linear Tape) A magnetic tape technology originally developed by Digital for its VAX line. The technology was later sold to Quantum, which makes it available to other manufacturers. DLT uses half-inch, single-hub cartridges similar to IBM's 3480/3490/3590 line.  technology, easy-to-use, scalable management, a guaranteed upgrade path, and integrated storage networking architecture to deliver an ideal solution for any business that is outgrowing older-generation backup systems Noun 1. backup system - a computer system for making backups

. And at a price 30% lower than other compact libraries, the Scalar 24 offers the industry's best value and a compelling answer for tight IT budgets.

"Compact libraries provide critical data protection for small and mid-sized enterprises as well as for larger organizations with distributed workgroups or remote offices," said Bill Britts Bill Britt is one of the most successful Independent Business Owners (IBOs) in the Amway/Quixtar business. "Explosive data growth at many of these sites has made the capacity, performance, and features of older generation autoloaders and drives inadequate. At the same time, new budget constraints A Budget Constraint represents the combinations of goods and services that a consumer can purchase given current prices and his income. The Scalar 24 changes that -- it gives users full enterprise performance and features at affordable, entry-level prices. And it protects 100% of their investment by giving them a guaranteed future upgrade path."

"Increasingly, customers need more capacity and functionality at much lower cost in today's environment," said Robert Amatruda, research manager at IDC. "ADIC's Scalar 24 provides customers a strong value-proposition with Enterprise-class features to meet their growing data storage needs."

The Scalar 24's advanced management features include built-in partitioning that allows a single library to operate as two independent autoloaders, and integrated 2-Gbs storage network support that improves the performance and reliability of SAN backup. The Scalar 24 helps protect user investments with a trouble-free upgrade path that includes easy-to-add drives and storage networking components, a next-generation drive-ready architecture, and a no-risk trade-up program that preserves 100% of a customer's investment. The Scalar 24 is backed by the industry's most complete 3-year warranty and 24-hour FastExchange service coverage.

The Scalar 24 is part of ADIC's award-winning Scalar family of intelligent tape libraries. Scalar libraries provide high performance tape storage for a wide range of environments, supporting from 15 to more than 15,000 data cartridges (1) A cartridge used to hold computer data. See cartridge.
