ADC to Provide Cuda 12000 IP Access Switch for Callahan's Kabel NRW Network Infrastructure.

ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT; www.adc.com) , a leading global supplier of fiber optics, network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multiservice networks, today announced that its Cuda(TM) 12000 IP Access Switch has been selected by a Nortel Networks-led consortium to help build one of the world's largest voice over IP (Internet Protocol) networks.

Nortel Networks selected ADC's Cuda 12000 to fulfill a contract that the consortium signed with Kabel NRW GmbH & Co. KG, Germany's largest private cable operator. Deployments are planned to start in mid-2001 and the bulk of the cable network upgrade is planned to be completed by 2003, potentially supplying more than 4.2 million homes in Germany with high-speed interactive communications services.

The Cuda 12000 is the industry's only next-generation DOCSIS (Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specifications) and EuroDOCSIS-compliant cable modem termination system (CMTS) and routing platform. The Cuda platform offers the highest DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS performance of any system in the industry and its powerful distributed architecture supports the intensive quality of service (QoS) needs of next generation IP services, including primary-line IP cable telephony. Based on its unique MeshFlow(TM) architecture, the Cuda 12000 IP Access Switch integrates powerful functionality into a single platform that today can only be achieved through multiple, separate systems, including a DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS-qualified CMTS, high performance switching, routing, and data aggregation, service provisioning, network diagnosis and management, and numerous LAN and WAN interfaces to support a variety of network topologies.
