Splitter Platform with remote test access capabilities.

ADC's new patent-pending BroadWire 528r system integrates remote test access functionality into a high-density DSL splitter platform, enabling service providers to consolidate two traditional network elements into a single chassis. This integrated solution minimizes cabling requirements, conserves valuable rack space, and simplifies DSL deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

"By integrating remote test access functionality into the splitter platform, service providers will realize substantial savings in capital and operational expenses," said Pat O'Brien, vice president of ADC's Connectivity Business Unit. "ADC's patent-pending BroadWire 528r platform is a high-density, technician-friendly solution that simplifies the DSL network."

Like traditional DSL splitters, the system is designed to split voice and data frequency bands enabling service providers to deliver both voice and high-speed data services simultaneously over a twisted pair A thin-diameter wire (22 to 26 gauge) commonly used for telephone and network cabling. The wires are twisted around each other to minimize interference from other twisted pairs in the cable (Alexander Graham Bell invented this and was awarded a patent for it in 1881).  of copper wires. The high-density platform supports up to 528 circuits and features make-before-break connectors that maintain lifeline telephony service.

Integrated remote test access functionality allows technicians to conduct intrusive or non-intrusive testing either through the lowpass filter toward the voice switch or downstream toward the outside plant. The system can be controlled remotely via TL1 or SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  and is interoperable with industry-leading testing and operational support systems.

The platform can be configured with or without remote test access features, enabling service providers to upgrade and add this functionality as required. ADC's BroadWire 528r system is NEBS NEBS Network Equipment Building System (Bell Telephone Labs)
