(Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act) requires wireless and wireline telephone carriers to upgrade their networks to provide court-ordered intercepted call content and call identifying information to law enforcement agencies A law enforcement agency (LEA) is a term used to describe any agency which enforces the law. This may be a local or state police, federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).  (LEAs).

ADC is a leading supplier of law enforcement intercept platforms and offers three distinct solutions: NewNet CALEAserver(TM) and NewNet CDCmanager(TM) for circuit-switched networks, and NewNet IP CALEAserver for packet-switched networks. These products support simultaneous delivery of intercepted information of a single target to up to five LEAs.

The NewNet CALEAserver is an open-architecture, reliable, and high-performance law enforcement intercept application which combines the TIA (1) (Telecommunications Industry Association, Arlington, VA, www.tiaonline.org) A membership organization founded in 1988 that sets telecommunications standards worldwide. It was originally an EIA working group that was spun off and merged with the U.S.  J-STD-025 defined delivery and administration functionality in a single platform running on UNIX operating systems and industry standard hardware platforms Each hardware platform, or CPU family, has a unique machine language. All software presented to the computer for execution must be in the binary coded machine language of that CPU. Following is a list of the major hardware platforms in existence today. See platform. . It receives the intercepted communications data from various circuit-switched network elements, processes it to conform to Verb 1. conform to - satisfy a condition or restriction; "Does this paper meet the requirements for the degree?"

the requirements of J-STD-025, and then distributes it to the appropriate LEA collection facilities.

Certified interfaces with state-of-the-art collection function equipment via the E-interface make NewNet CALEAserver easy to install and operate as well as cost-effective. The product's scalable system architecture supports up to 512 simultaneous call content intercepts, 12 EWSD switch systems, and 1000 collection functions. Other system capabilities include; security, built-in trouble shooting tools/utilities, local and remote support, and operations, administration and maintenance tools. The expandability and flexibility of NewNet CALEAserver provides an easy-to-use system that accommodates network needs.

The Siemens EWSD switch is the most deployed public switching system in the world. Over 200 million ports have the Siemens EWSD technology. EWSD represents the latest in communication technology, providing a fast and cost-efficient response to all the challenges facing the telecommunications markets today and tomorrow: deregulation Deregulation

NewNet CALEAserver met our requirements", said Paul Freuck, CALEA Product Manager for Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc. "With NewNet CALEAserver, we now have the ability to provide localized CALEA message output from each switch, in addition to, a centralized call data channel manager for call information and gateway functionality for large data throughput.

"Our NewNet CALEAserver platform allowed Siemens to minimize their development time and costs in implementing the CALEA requirements in their EWSD switching system. Our agreement with Siemens is another milestone in our leadership and commitment to providing our customers with scalable and cost-effective law enforcement intercept solutions and services", said Grant Wakelin, president for ADC's NewNet Division.
