ADC Wireless Systems announces flexible coverage enhancement system for PCS network operators.SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 1997--ADC has announced the latest addition to its well known line of coverage enhancement systems. CityLink, will be available at the end of September, and is targeted at PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1. network operators who need an economical and flexible method of rapidly deploying coverage in new networks or covering gaps in existing networks. In its simplest form, CityLink is an over the air repeater (1) A communications device that amplifies (analog) or regenerates (digital) the data signal in order to extend the transmission distance. Available for both electronic and optical signals, repeaters are used extensively in long distance transmission. that provides coverage to hard to reach areas such as canyons and along busy highways. A pair of CityLinks can also perform F1 to F2 frequency conversion for in-band back haul transport where terrestrial facilities are unavailable. In its third implementation, it can provide RF extension via fiber optic transport. All three versions have the same enhanced maintenance and diagnostic capabilities for remote network administration. "We designed a modular system at a competitive price that can adapt to a variety of applications," says Doug Schoenwald, Product Line Director. "CityLink was conceived to allow PCS network operators to deploy coverage as quickly and as extensively as possible," he concludes. ADC (1) See A/D converter. Wireless Systems develops and manufactures innovative microcellular solutions that support all global air interface standards. CityWide, a family of digital RF extension systems allows network operators to increase coverage and capacity at a fraction of the cost of a traditional cell site, and supports AMPS, CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). based infrastructure. The Cellerity line is a scaleable series of CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) A low-speed, digital, wireless data network that is an enhancement to an existing analog cellular network. Based on IBM's CelluPlan II, CDPD provides a packet overlay onto the AMPS network and moves data at 19. base station solutions that supports the mobile data requirements of network operators worldwide. ADC Wireless Systems also has the software development expertise of ADC Metrica, a wholly owned subsidiary Wholly Owned Subsidiary A subsidiary whose parent company owns 100% of its common stock.
