ADC Signs Multi-Phase Agreement for Distribution of Fiber-Optic Products in China.MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 1996--ADC Telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance. See communications., Inc., today announced that it has signed a distribution agreement with Nanjing Telecommunications Equipment Factory (NTEF NTEF - Near Total External Fluorescence) to work cooperatively on an initiative to market and sell ADC's fiber-optic cabling systems throughout China. The agreement is another in a series of activities ADC has recently undertaken in China to help build that country's telecommunications network infrastructure. "The increasing demand for a range of new, broadband services in China has created a corresponding need for a physical network infrastructure See network architecture. that is affordable to build, easy to expand and compatible with future generations of network technology," said Lynn Davis, president of ADC's Broadband Connectivity Group. "We are pleased to be working with NTEF on creating an opportunity for the deployment of these important network infrastructure products, which can ultimately determine the success of fiber-optic networks in China." The first phase of the multi-phase agreement establishes NTEF as a distributor for the marketing, sale and distribution in China of ADC's FL2000 fiber panel products. The FL2000 family of products provides for the distribution of fiber-optic cable and the management of fiber-optic circuits, including centralized termination, splicing and storage capabilities for in-building cables, outside plant The facilities that link a telephone company's central office (CO) to the subscriber. The outside plant is essentially the local loops and all their associated equipment, which includes the cables, junction boxes, load coils and other structures. Also known as the "loop plant." Contrast with inside plant. Additional phases of the agreement provide the opportunity for assembly and manufacturing of the FL2000 panel products in China utilizing ADC's technology and design. The agreement also provides for the cooperative relationship established between ADC and NTEF to be expanded in the future to include other ADC broadband connectivity products. The organization is under the leadership of China General Corporation of Post and Telecommunications Industry and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in China. "A key for China to effectively compete in the global marketplace is to build a state-of-the-art network infrastructure," said Mr. Weide Li, president of NTEF. "Because fiber-optics will play an important role in that infrastructure, we will continue to look to companies like ADC for total broadband solutions that will provide the foundation for the country's telecommunications network." ADC's Broadband Connectivity Group provides high-quality, reliable, physical connectivity products worldwide for wireless, fiber-optic, twisted-pair and coaxial cable co-ax"). Coax has also been used in earlier Ethernet networks (see 10Base2). Strong and flexible, coaxial cable contains an insulated solid or stranded wire surrounded by a solid or braided metallic shield, all of which is wrapped in a plastic cover. Fire-safe teflon coating is optional. Often similar in appearance, there are numerous types of coaxial cables. networks. Connectivity products provide physical contact points for connecting network elements and accessing circuits for installation, testing, monitoring or reconfiguration. The Broadband Connectivity Group offers products for fiber-optic cable management, testing and network management, copper cable management and outside plant applications. ADC Telecommunications, Inc., is a leading global supplier of transmission and networking systems used to deliver voice, data and video services.
