Young Italian Carrier Chooses Metrica/NPR for Wireline Management

as it Expands Business and Capacity

ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT; www.adc.com) today announced an agreement with Italian fixed telecoms carrier, Infostrada, to install ADC's industry-leading network performance management technology, Metrica/NPR for Wireline.

Infostrada, which provides full fixed telecommunications services in Italy, plans to use the advanced Metrica/NPR tools to guarantee quality and consistency of service as it manages massive growth in traffic, as well as ensure orderly roll-out of new capacity. Since January 1999, Infostrada's business and private fixed line subscriber base has increased by 136% to over two million, giving it a 9.6% share of the Italian private fixed line market. Infostrada also holds 28% of the Italian market for Internet access.

With growth of this magnitude, performance management is a major issue - ensuring that the complex and advanced SDH, frame relay, intelligent network (IN) and voice switching infrastructure is fully optimized at all times. Metrica/NPR will analyze the vast amounts of data from Infostrada's diverse network elements; calculate key performance indicators and summary attributes for network elements, service customers and the network as a whole and offer operators information on measures such as errored seconds, busy hour trunk usage and service availability. These measures can be analyzed over any given time period and summarized in historical, current operations and forecasting reports. Metrica will give Infostrada end-to-end path and service information so that any customer-affecting problems are detected and dealt with as early as possible.
