: ADCT ADCT Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform ) today announced the general availability of their Connect7 product running natively on Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) Server.

This product incorporates the Signaling System 7 (SS7) communications protocol, used to provide two major capabilities via Intelligent Public Networks: fast call setup using high-speed circuit-switched connections, and transaction capabilities to access telephony data base applications. NewNet's Connect7 product now permits SS7-dependent voice applications to be developed and deployed throughout corporate enterprise telecommunications networks on Windows NT-based Compaq ProLiant servers.

This capability comes at a time when network intelligence is migrating to the periphery of today's public networks and into the enterprise. Enterprise applications are leveraging network intelligence accessible via the SS7 network in order to enable a variety of new services. Applications include inbound 1-800 number translation, efficient IVR (Interactive Voice Response) An automated telephone information system that speaks to the caller with a combination of fixed voice menus and data extracted from databases in real time.  and VoiceMail connections, PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN).  interworking (standard) interworking - Systems or components, possibly from different origins, working together to perform some task. Interworking depends crucially on standards to define the interfaces between the components.  and private/public network interworking.

"Running Connect7 on Compaq ProLiant servers under Microsoft Windows NT Server is easy. It is simple to set-up, operate and manage, and the Connect7 Application Programming Interface gives application partners convenient access to global SS7 capabilities," said Dilip Singh, President, ADC NewNet. "We are pleased with the assistance we received from Compaq and are excited to be working with a leading manufacturer of industry-standard servers that offer excellent integration and manageability."

"Offering SS7 on a Windows NT Server platform will allow rapid development and deployment of telephony applications by developers pursuing opportunities with enterprise customers," said Tom Bunch, Vice President, Business Development, Enterprise Solution Division, Compaq. "By deploying Connect7 on Compaq servers, customers can take advantage of the price/performance, manageability and flexibility offered by industry-standard platforms."

"Offering Connect7 on Microsoft Windows NT Server provides application developers and service providers with greater flexibility and time-to-market advantages for deploying critical telecommunications applications," said Jonathan Usher, Telecom Industry Marketing Manager for Microsoft. "End-users will benefit from the wide range of new services and applications that can be enabled by Connect7 and the powerful Windows NT Server environment."

"The Connect7 - Compaq ProLiant - Windows NT Server combination will meet the price, performance and rapid deployment requirements of the most demanding enterprise customers," said Andrew Patka, President of MassMedia Communications (www.massmediacom.com). "Furthermore, this combination represents an excellent platform for interworking and gateway applications between the Internet, the enterprise and the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S. )."

Connect7 runs on a single I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

board and interacts with the Windows NT Server environment via a simple device driver interface. The product isolates the application developer from the complexity of SS7 network protocols while providing convenient access to the application layer. Furthermore, executing the entire SS7 protocol suite on a single I/O board maximizes the performance efficiency of the overall solution and frees significant server resources for value-added applications.

The protocol stack meets the international standards (ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC. , ITU (International Telecommunication Union, Geneva, Switzerland, www.itu.ch) A telecommunications standards body that is under the auspices of the United Nations. Comprising more than 185 member countries, the ITU sets standards for global telecom networks.  and country variants) required for SS7 network connections and is derived from ADC NewNet's widely deployed AccessMANAGER(TM) product. This initial offering supports up to four SS7 links on a single board that can be associated with the same SS7 network node, or up to four stacks with different variants, an industry first. Multiple boards can be installed on the same system for increased capacity. Later this year, ADC NewNet will deliver full load sharing and redundancy, distributed over multiple boards and fault-resilient server configurations.
