ADC Kentrox and NTTI Introduce 6.3Mbps ATM UNI for ATM Connectivity; New J2 Module for AAC-3 Delivers Global ATM WAN Access.


PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1996--ADC Kentrox (NASDQ: ADCT ADCT Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform ), the leading provider of ATM WAN access solutions, and Nippon Telephone & Telegraph International (NTTI NTTI National Tanning Training Institute ) announced today a customized 6.3 Mbps ATM UNI module for the ADC (1) See A/D converter.

(2) (Apple Display Connector) A peripheral connector from Apple that combines digital video display, USB and power in one cable.
 Kentrox AAC-3(tm) ATM Access Concentrator.

It will provide economical services for NTTI's corporate customers. The AAC-3 will be marketed in Japan under the product name IAC-3 and is the first offering of the ADC Kentrox/NTTI OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  marketing agreement announced in December 1995.

The 6.3 Mbps interface has been jointly developed by NTTI/NTT and ADC Kentrox. With the deployment of this new interface module, a large number of carrier customers using Frame Relay, SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) A high-speed, switched data communications service offered by the local telephone companies for interconnecting LANs in different locations. It was introduced in 1992 and became generally available nationwide by 1995.  and HDLC (High-level Data Link Control) A data link protocol from ISO for point-to-point communications over serial links. Derived from IBM's SDLC protocol, HDLC has been the basis for numerous protocols including X.25, ISDN, T1, SS7, GSM, CDPD, PPP and others.  protocols can now effectively offer commercial ATM services.

A Powerful and Practical Solution. The IAC-3 is a modular ATM Access Concentrator that provides integration of multi-service protocols over ATM-based private and public networks. Designed to provide economical integration of a wide variety of data, video and voice applications, the IAC-3 maximizes bandwidth by combining dynamic ATM cell concentration and advanced bandwidth management capabilities. NTTI has exclusive rights to distribute the 6.3Mbps interface-configured AAC-3 under NTTI's brand name "IAC-3" in Japan. They will sell the AAC-3, as well as other ADC Kentrox products, in Japan on a non-exclusive basis. The IAC-3 is available now.
