"In addition, ADC's established position in the video transmission business will provide us with access to the high-end service provider markets, resulting in significant opportunities to expand Optivision's product market share."

Fred Lawrence, senior vice president of ADC's Transmission Group, said, "The video compression technology that will be available from Optivision will greatly enhance our video product portfolio and differentiate ADC as the most complete supplier of video transmission and switching solutions in the marketplace. Applications for the combined product lines of ADC and Optivision are huge in the cable TV, distance learning and broadcast video markets."

Optivision's product initiatives include a complete line of OPTIVideo(a) MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoders and decoders designed to meet the needs of the transmission and video-on-demand markets. Key to the success of these products is the company's in-depth knowledge of core MPEG technology. This knowledge, coupled with Optivision's close relationship with C-Cube, the world's leading supplier of chips for MPEG CODECs The following is a list of codecs. Audio codecs

, has allowed the company to produce revolutionary new products such as their soon-to-be-announced MPEG-2 encoder.

Optivision's MPEG-2 encoder will deliver professional quality MPEG encoding at data rates that are well tuned to the transmission industry and at a price point well below the industry competition. Optivision also produces a complete line of MPEG decoders, including the new MPEG-2 Genlock decoder and high-speed quad (four-channel, rack-mount) decoder. These decoders can operate at data rates from 600 Kbps to 15 Mbps and support a wide variety of data transport formats, including MPEG-1 System, MPEG-2 Program and MPEG-2 Transport.

ADC's video transmission and switching family includes the DV6000(TM) digital transmission system, the Homeworx(TM) access platform and the PixlNet(TM) videoconferencing system. The DV6000 operates at 2.4 Gbps and simultaneously transports up to 16 channels of digitized broadband traffic, is completely modular, and supports diverse network configurations and multiple video formats. ) architecture to residential and small business customers. The platform is being deployed by or has been in field trials with Ameritech, Cable Bahamas, Comcast, Nynex, Optus Vision, Rochester Telephone, SNET and Time Warner.

The PixlNet system is an H.320-compliant multipoint video conference control and switching unit compatible with all brands of H.261 CODECs.
