:ADCT ADCT Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform ) (www.adc.com) today introduced a new high-performance TrueNet(R) CopperTen(TM) Patch Panel A group of sockets used to connect incoming and outgoing lines in communications and electronic systems. Patch panels allow for manually wiring the connections with small cables (patch cords), rather than automatic switching.  for 10-gigabit Ethernet transmission. The patch panel features a modular design In the context of systems engineering, modular design — or "modularity in design" — is an approach aiming to subdivide a system into smaller parts (modules) that can be independently created and then used in different systems to drive multiple functionalities.  and offset jack positioning to counter the negative effects of alien crosstalk. ADC will showcase CopperTen solutions, including the new patch panel, at the BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International, Tampa, FL, www.bicsi.org) An international telecommunications association providing education, registration and resources for professionals involved in the design and installation of low-voltage distribution systems in commercial and  Spring Conference in Las Vegas, May 2-5, in booth #720/722 and at NetWorld+Interop 2005 in Las Vegas, May 3-5, in booth #839.

The new CopperTen patch panel is the latest addition to ADC's Augmented Category 6 family of products. CopperTen is the world's original unshielded twisted pair See twisted pair.

) structured cabling system with the necessary characteristics to enable 10-gigabit Ethernet transmission over a full 100 meters. Typical UTP Category 6 cabling systems are hindered by the technical combination of insertion loss and alien crosstalk (interference from adjacent cables) at higher frequencies. Today, CopperTen, with tens of millions of feet of cable installed worldwide, is the most specified, installed, and operational next-generation cabling system in the world.

"The innovative design of the new CopperTen Patch Panel essentially eliminates the problems associated with alien crosstalk that normally disrupt transmission of high-frequency data communications, such as those needed for 10-gigabit Ethernet," said Bob Kenny, vice president of Global Enterprise Product Management for ADC. "ADC's breakthrough design is the latest enhancement to the most advanced structured cabling system in the world."

All CopperTen products are guaranteed to have a minimum data-carrying capacity of 18-gigabits per second and support the TIA (1) (Telecommunications Industry Association, Arlington, VA, www.tiaonline.org) A membership organization founded in 1988 that sets telecommunications standards worldwide. It was originally an EIA working group that was spun off and merged with the U.S.  568 B.2 Addendum 10 draft standard requirements for 10-gigabit Ethernet cabling systems.

--ADC's CopperTen Patch Panels feature a modular plug-and- play design that accommodates up to 24 jacks per one rack unit panel. Patent-pending offset jack positioning combats alien crosstalk. Ports are individually labeled for easy circuit identification and a rear wire management bar ensures efficient management of incoming cables.

Live 10-gigabit Ethernet over UTP Performance Testing

At both BICSI and NetWorld+Interop exhibitions, attendees will witness the enhanced performance of ADC's CopperTen solutions in a live testing demonstration to the proposed TIA 568B.2 Addendum 10 draft standard for Augmented Category 6. Using the Fluke Networks(R) DTX 1800 testers, ADC will test to 500 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  on a full 100 meters of cable showcasing the high-performance features that lead more enterprises to install CopperTen for future-proofed networks.

ADC TrueNet Structured Cabling System
