MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2004

(Nasdaq:ADCT ADCT Adaptive Discrete Cosine Transform , www.adc.com) announced today that FTTH (Fiber To The Home) See FTTP.  Communications will deploy ADC's new Fiber Distribution Terminals (FDT FDT - Formal Description Technique ) in its all-fiber network. The Minneapolis-based provider of voice, video and Internet services relies on the network to cost-effectively offer residential customers true broadband services.

Designed for new fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP (Fiber To The Premises) The installation of optical fiber from the carrier directly into the home or office. Also called "fiber to the home" (FTTH). See PON and FTTC. See also FTP. ) rollouts, FDTs help telecommunications service providers manage a flexible and scalable network, including the expensive central office based electronics. With the proper fiber infrastructure in place, service providers can scale the network to more homes or businesses as needed as needed prn. See prn order.  and generate revenues more efficiently and quickly.

"The unique technical features of ADC's Fiber Distribution Terminals, and the company's attention to our specific needs, were key factors in choosing ADC," said John Schultz John Schultz (born September 28, 1938) is a former Australian rules football player, who played for the Footscray Football Club in the (then) Victorian Football League (VFL) and is one of the club's greatest players. , general manager of FTTH Communications. "The FDTs we'll add to our network will let us cost-effectively scale to demand and add services as we grow, instead of realizing capital expenses up front. ADC also showed us how its equipment will help us deliver new services to subscribers faster and more effectively to meet their needs."

The Fiber Distribution Terminal design features ample connector access, slack storage for optical fibers, housing for splice trays and splitter modules, and bend-radius protection for all fibers managed in the cabinet. Service providers can select from various sizes to fit their needs, accommodating 32 to 1,152 homes per cabinet. ADC's design meets Telcordia specifications.

"Our years of experience in listening to customers and designing and building craft-friendly fiber connectivity products give service providers a distinct advantage," said Pat O'Brien, president of ADC's Connectivity Business Unit. "We feel our FDT is the most flexible fiber-to-the-premises cabinet available today, designed specifically for those applications. We are pleased to work with FTTH Communications as they turn-up enhanced services over fiber networks for their subscribers in the Minneapolis metro area."

It is estimated that $1.5 - 3.5 billion will be spent annually by telecommunications service providers during the next five years as FTTP networks are deployed in the United States. New FTTP projects initiated by carriers and municipalities have increased by more than 87 percent since 2000 and states like California and Washington lead the country with more than 90,000 homes accessible to new fiber networks.
