ADC Enhances Award Winning Cellworx STN.

New 2.0 Version Scalable up to OC-48c and NEBS Level 3 Certified

ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT; www.adc.com) today announced several enhancements to its award-winning Cellworx(TM) Service Transport Node (STN), including the availability of the OC-48c ring interface for network traffic. Additionally, Cellworx STN has achieved Network Equipment Building Standard (NEBS) Level 3 certification, the hallmark of telecommunications network safety and reliability.

The Cellworx STN 2.0 feature set debuts at ComNet `2000, in Washington, D.C., where Cellworx will be showcased in ADC's Booth #1318, January 25-27.

With the enhanced product features, Cellworx STN now has full scalability, from DS3 to OC-48c, which simplifies future broadband planning and allows carriers to migrate from a small point-to-multipoint platform to a full-scale multiservice ATM virtual path ring. OC-48c capacity allows deployment with fewer SONET rings and establishes more nodes per ring for greater transport flexibility and significantly reduced capital costs. Due to its increased efficiency, an OC-48c ATM virtual path ring can provide transport capacity exceeding that of an OC-192 SONET time division multiplexed (TDM) ring.

Other feature enhancements include: an OC-3c ring interface; E1 cell relay service/circuit emulation service (CRS/CES) interface with 16 ports per module; a 19-inch shelf; multiple GUI/user support; and the addition of software for remote management.

In addition to the Cellworx element manager system, ADC is offering a new fault management system based on OSI's (Nasdaq: OSII) NetExpert(R) operations support system (OSS) framework. This solution offers an open integration environment for multi-protocol networks and applications--enabling users to manage a wide range of systems.

Configuration management for the Cellworx system is planned for a future release.

To date, more than 200 Cellworx STNs have been deployed to a variety of customers, including the Iowa Communications Network, Midcontinent Communications, China's Beijing PTT, a major interexchange carrier, the U.S. Army, and several other government agencies. Cellworx STN is also in laboratory evaluations or trial with several incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs).

The Cellworx STN is an ATM virtual path ring transport element that offers carriers bandwidth-efficient, multiservice delivery to support current and future broadband demand. Providing bandwidth-on-demand, Cellworx STN frees up stranded bandwidth to support more subscribers, without significant infrastructure investments. Cellworx maintains the survivability and reliability of traditional SONET, while providing next generation data-oriented services and capabilities. A breakthrough transport and access platform, the Cellworx STN can be configured to flexibly provision bandwidth for an array of today's popular services such as frame relay, ATM cell relay, and private-line circuit emulation. Cellworx STN was recently honored with the prestigious International Engineering Consortium 1999 InfoVision Award recognizing outstanding innovation in technologies, products, and services introduced in the previous year.
