, a supplier of equipment, software and integration services for broadband and multi-service networks. The new contact center, which handles voice and data simultaneously, will help ADC combine call centers in the U.S. and Europe that handle customer service for the IP Cable product line into a single "virtual" center.

ADC engaged Norstan Communications, Inc. to deploy the IP contact center for the IP Cable Technical Support operations across five locations in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , Belgium and Germany. This IP Contact Center will be implemented as a single unified environment with local PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S.  access in all three countries. The IP Contact Center includes a basic voice menu to assist in directing callers to the appropriate technical support team regardless of location or time of day.

ADC wanted to connect its customer service technical support call centers in the U.S., Germany and Belgium into a seamless system. Norstan is centered around the IP Contact Center solution because it handles both voice and data, giving ADC one network that will do the work of two. With the solution's hardware located at its Minnesota facility, ADC's three call centers will form one virtual center that provides "follow-the-sun" support (calls are routed to the center that's open) and reduced call wait times (calls are routed to the most available person).

The Norstan design includes an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) An automated telephone information system that speaks to the caller with a combination of fixed voice menus and data extracted from databases in real time.  (Interactive Voice Response) capability with auto attendant The part of an interactive voice response (IVR) system that replaces the human operator and directs callers to the appropriate extensions or voice mailboxes. The system also has a web view report component that allows managers to easily view supervisory reports.

"Our positive experience with Norstan was one reason we picked them to integrate our global call centers," said Jeff Korkowski, vice president of Customer Service of ADC, "but Norstan went beyond what we expected. By providing us with an IP Contact Center solution, we not only have the virtual call center we wanted, we also gain a single network that combines voice and data. We gain operational efficiencies and cut costs at the same time we're improving the great technical support we already provide our customers."

"We take our expertise in contact center design and our desire to meet our clients' communications technology needs very seriously," said Larry J. Schmidt, Norstan's executive vice president of Communications Technology Direct Solutions.
