ADC Broadens Functionality of SG-1 Service Gateway with New Enhanced Services Capabilities.

MINNEAPOLIS -- EDS Technology Enables Service Providers to Offer Unique Application Awareness and Hierarchical Bandwidth Control Services

ADC (NASDAQ:ADCTD, www.adc.com) today announced that its next-generation SG-1 Service Gateway platform features a new Enhanced Differentiated Services (EDS) capability that allows service providers to cost-effectively expand their portfolios of broadband offerings to improve their competitive position and increase revenues.

The EDS technology, which enables the identification and authentication of individual subscribers, provides a personalized service profile to the customer dynamically and interactively that supports two new features. The new SG-1 Application Awareness feature allows service providers to allocate different resources for different applications being used by various customers. This multi-service approach allows the SG-1 to provide an individual service profile for each customer with the service further defined according to the application required. For example, VoIP and peer-to-peer traffic can be assigned with a specific priority and bandwidth that can be billed separately.

In addition, the SG-1 offers a hierarchical bandwidth control with a priority feature that enables the service provider to deliver multiple grades of service dynamically on a priority basis according to each customer's individual application and priority per session.

The SG-1 Service Gateway is designed for simple and straightforward integration with a wide range of network elements and topologies. With its drop-in architecture, the SG-1 takes responsibility for service creation, service enforcement and dynamic service management, independent of the access network elements being used. The access network is responsible for access, transmission and switching, while service management and provisioning are handled in central or regional locations by the SG-1. This concept and topology are similar to a voice intelligent network (IN), where signaling and voice data transport are separate.

The SG-1 next-generation platform provides improved scalability and configuration flexibility, easy and economical service definition and enforcement procedures, and reduced integration expenses. Combined, these advantages deliver a faster time to profit with lower up-front capital investment.
