The newest addition to ADC's Anywave(TM) tunable laser family features an integrated wavelength locker and proprietary control algorithm, as well as all drive and control electronics in a compact, board-mountable package. The new tunable and other ADC optical components will be on display at booth number 3500 at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit (OFC OFC Office

"ADC is the only optical component manufacturers that can build a widely tunable laser with a built-in wavelength locker in volume for commercial use," said Rick Masloski, vice president and general manager of photonics for ADC. "Our customers recognize that ADC's tunable lasers are among the very best available and the new features of the NYW-60-B are designed to ensure wavelength stability over the life of the laser."

The smallest format in the industry, ADC's NYW-60-B tunable laser is the first widely tunable semiconductor laser with a wavelength locker integrated into the butterfly package, which can work with any frequency grid within the tuning range (full C-band). In addition, it supports up to 80 factory calibrated cal·i·brate

Lasers that emit in this band can be optically amplified with EDFAs and are used in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM (1) (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) A technology that uses multiple lasers and transmits several wavelengths of light (lambdas) simultaneously over a single optical fiber. ) fiber optic communication systems. The NYW-60-B is Telcordia qualified for provisional use by October 2002 and will be available in high quantities beginning this summer.

ADC's Tunable Laser Leadership

Telecom providers continue to face the challenge of trying to deploy high-bandwidth networks at increasingly competitive costs. Tunable lasers are sold to systems vendors whose solutions help telecom carriers to reduce network operating costs associated with these deployments and provide a critical catalyst in promoting the growth of all-optical networks.

ADC entered the tunable laser market in 2000 and became the first company to deploy tunable lasers in a field environment. ADC was also the first optical component maker in the world to commercially ship a tunable laser. With its new vertically integrated facility in Jarfalla, Sweden now online, ADC also becomes the first manufacturer to commercially build tunable lasers in volume in a non-lab environment.
